Oh hey I just realized I didn't ever introduce Trinket over here.



He is a lab/pyrenees mix (I suspect, like, maybe 3/4 of one and a quarter of the other), he is probably at or approaching 5 months old, and with any luck he is going to be my service dog!

At the moment, though, he is just a Naughty Soot Demon with an injured paw who is only just now allowed to be around strange dogs (and therefore in training) bc now he has the most important shots.

He has such a good face. It has exactly two modes, and those are:

Right? Like... we all saw it coming, but wow I did not expect things to implode so suddenly.

But, y'know. As soon as a platform starts forbidding "sexual acts", you know it's gonna turn weird and homophobic real quick, and it is time to head for the lifeboats.

It pisses me off, because besides fandom content (most of which is NOT porn), the main thing I use Tumblr for is following about half a dozen queer/queerYA book blogs and review blogs. And I don't know where else I'm going to find that.

Yeeeaaah, tumblr has a lot of great DnD and worldbuildy blogs that I will super miss if they go down, and they're part of the reason I plan to hang around there as long as it's functional and not actively hostile, but... it can't be my home base anymore.

And that is always the worst part of these weird fandom exoduses, the way communities inevitably get scattered and some people just disappear... I hate it. :c

One thing I found on Tumblr - it used to be that ships were these castiron things with flamewars and hard lines you couldn't cross without being a horrible person and WRONG and all this nonsense. Tumblr seemed to make it possible to be an omnivorous multishipper without the fandom police descending from on high in their chariots.

Yeeeaaah. To be fair, I was absolutely that way pre-tumblr, but it was much less common and people were real weird about it.

(As of late, the younger generation of fandom seems to see shipping as an endorsement that this is totally healthy and also a thing you want to see in canon and... no. None of that. I just want to play with relationships and possibilities jfc.)

Honestly I feel like that's just a matter of what people you found where, because I don't think I EVER had that hard line feeling in my own personal fandom social group, and I've been in fandoms since 2002. Like, I knew they existed, but I never ran up against them myself. I actually personally found more resistance to ships/crossing shipping lines on tumblr than I did on previous sites.

I just wanted to mention that as a potentially comforting thing? It literally is about the people you surround yourself with, you can find good open-minded people on whatever platform you're on. AND given that the more open-minded situation is more the norm these days than hard lines, I think you'll have a lot of luck with that.

Potter was really hardline with shipping, who was shipped with whom, especially amongst the main three characters. Even writers in the 'gay' ships had some pretty homophobic ideas about what was a 'real' relationship. Friendships broke up over who they thought would top or bottom. (Changing it up in your stories was seen as a bit weird.) Communities were really separate based on shipping lines. A friend of mine ran one of the fests that was open to multiships, I wrote for that a bunch of times. It was a great little fest, but I'd still get weird comments from people sometimes who didn't approve of the ship or dynamic I chose to write.

It'll start being somewhere. There used to be geocities pages and yahoo groups for that. Then LJ comms. there'll be something after.

the main issue is finding where it's GONE. Hopefully it'll consolodate somewhere you know?

As a social media platform, Dreamwidth is far, far better for actually TALKING to people than tumblr ever was, but as a news source, it was really useful. There are just a bunch of things that media outlets don't report on properly, if at all. And I just really loved getting NEW!BOOK!INFO! straight on my dash, about books that were small, indie, or self-published alongside major publishers with no bias towards the big money.

I'm also really worried about the autistic community. The dual usage of the word 'stimming' by both autistic people and kink communities has pretty much doomed all the autistic users and content. Autistic communities take time to develop and evolve, and, in general, autistic people don't deal well with change this catastrophic.

Yeah. Twitter can be good for the new book stuff if you find the right accounts to follow? But it's not as good overall. That was like. One sort of thing that tumblr did well - also news that was a breakdown of what was going on with links to multiple articles, which is basically impossible to do well on twitter.

God, yeah. Autistic blogs and shit were a thing before tumblr was a big deal, but they're very decentralized and don't help foster a community the way tumblr did, even if it was a HORRIBLE platform for it.

I know places like Wrong Planet existed, but I never really used it, because when I went there, there was a lot of Aspie/HFA elitist BULLSHIT, and I wasn't interested in some of the 'we're more evolved humans' eugenicist crap some of them seemed to believe. I just want to be able to read disability/neurodiverse blogs and news and see some wholesome pro-stimming content without all the drama, y'know? I want there to be somewhere safe baby queers and baby neurodiverse folks can congregate without the terfs, bots, and paederasts ruining it for everybody, AGAIN.

I'm just really pulling for people to gravitate back to dw and open communities that can be that sort of place.
